Where Should I Start My Training?

This is the question that starts the first conversation we have with many, many students. As you browse through the many classes listed under the various categories in the menu to the left, you may also wonder which class would be best suited to your skill and experience so you get the most out or your training at Firearms Academy.

For the beginning student who does not have much experience with firearms, the best choices are first to take the Handgun Safety Seminar followed by the Fundamentals of Home Defense or Concealed Carry 101, depending on individual interests and needs. (Our safety seminar is a non-negotiable prerequisite to Concealed Carry 101 or Fundamentals of Home Defense.)

For the more advanced student, Defensive Handgun is the place to start.

If you have already completed at least 40 hours of advanced handgun training elsewhere, it may be possible for you to start at Tactical Handgun, but this is allowed only on a case-by-case basis. Law enforcement officers with academy training may consider starting at Defensive Handgun or at Tactical Handgun depending on personal skill level. Note: We cannot accept your registration for Tactical Handgun without knowing you meet the pre-requisites. If starting at Tactical Handgun, please call 360-978-6100 or e-mail your request and training resume to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
