Facility Questions

Why are you not located in Seattle?

In the mid 90's, our founder Marty Hayes started building the current FAS training range down in Onalaska Washington, halfway between Seattle and Portland. More info about the range can be found here.

How do I get to the range?

We are located halfway between Seattle and Portland in Onalaska, WA. New students will be e-mailed a map to the range. Please allow up to 1 week to receive your confirmation letter and map. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Can I visit the range before taking a class?

FAS Is a Private Training Facility. We are closed to the public and are not open for visitors. You must be enrolled in a class or event that is actively occurring to come to the range. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Do you have any lodging recommendations?

Please see our page dedicated to this topic: Where Should I Stay?. We recommend students stay in the Centralia/Chehalis area.

Do you allow camping on site?

We do allow limited dry camping for vetted alumni ONLY. Utilities are not available. Anyone staying at the range MUST get prior approval from Belle.

Class Questions

What classes do you offer?

We offer many classes on shooting and self defense in our Handgun, Rifle, and Shotgun programs as well as classes on other topics. A full list can be found on our All Class Offerings page.

Do you offer private training?

Please contact us about private training. We strongly urge students to sign up for our regular scheduled classes.

Who can train at FAS?

Our classes are open to any US citizens or permanent residents who can legally possess firearms. You must be 21 years and older for any handgun classes as many require a concealed pistol license. For long gun classes, those 18-20 years old may sign up if they legally own the firearm they are using for that class. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us before registering and check the class description for other pre-requisites or limitations.

What are your range rules?

Please see our Range Rules article for more info. If you have any questions, please contact us.

How do I register for a class?

Registering online with Visa/Mastercard is preferred. Calling is also an option to register over the phone. You must call to receive any discounts or to use a credit. Discounts may not be applied after registering online and we do not do partial refunds. Please read our entire Registration Policy before registering.

What is your refund or cancellation policy?

We do not offer refunds. Please read our entire Registration Policy before registering.

Do your courses require prerequisites?

Please see the individual class listing. Prerequisites are not only important due to shooting skill but also due to the legal material on judicious use of deadly force and Washington State specific gun laws covered in the classes. The legal material is so important that we insist all handgun students get this block in their first class with us whether that is an Into to Handguns, Defensive Handgun, or Weeklong Handgun.  Prerequisites may be waived under a very narrow set of circumstances and must be approved by Belle McCormack before signing up. Equipment Questions

Do you have any ammo or caliber restrictions?

We do not allow hard cast lead for handgun classes. We require lead birdshot, buckshot, and slugs for shotgun classes. For rifle classes, steel core (green tip) ammo may not be used on our rifle steel but may be shot at the paper targets. Absolutely no tracer or incendiary ammo. If you have any questions, please contact us.

What gear is acceptable and recommended for classes?

Please see our Advice to New Students and Range Rules articles.
