Few firearms students manage to fit regular, meaningful practice into their busy lives. Competitive shooting is a great way to fill that void, because a one day match blends fun, social time with other shooters, and the invaluable opportunity to practice handgunning skills relevant to self-defense use of the gun. 3-GUN MATCHES are held at Firearms Academy February through November as are IDPA MATCHES
The premier shooting sport for competition with practical personal defense firearms is the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA). In 2011, the Firearms Academy of Seattle, Inc. reactivated its IDPA club, and is once again hosting IDPA matches. Matches at F.A.S. have the unique features of low-light in daylight hours, moving target arrays and more.
Are you new to IPDA? That’s great, come out and experience an IDPA match. New shooters will be put in a squad with an experienced Safety Officer, who will give the group a new shooter orientation, then take the squad through the match, explaining the in’s and out’s of shooting the match and make sure your first match is an enjoyable experience. NOTE: After the first match, shooters must join IDPA to continue to participate in matches. We support this requirement, because in order to get classified, one must be a member, and IDPA survives financially due to membership dues.
