Rifle
l1rifleLevel 1 Rifle is a 1-day training course covering a broad range of topics dealing with general rifle or carbine use.

Designed for the student who has little or no experience using rifles or carbines, we will start at the beginning with basic rifle marksmanship principles, sighting in and establishing a "zero" for your rifle. Then, after students are comfortable with the operation of their rifles and are sighted in, we will progress into different shooting positions and targets set at varying distances. Day ends with optional rifle maintenance and cleaning.

Any modern production rifle is allowed in this course, including pistol caliber carbines, lever action rifles and bolt action rifles.

Level One Rifle Equipment List

Tactical Riflelvl1rifl is geared for the patrol officer or armed citizen wanting to increase proficiency with the use of the semi-auto rifle/carbine. Instruction includes use of cover, multiple targets, rapid fire, long range shooting (out to 200 yards), malfunction clearing and speed reloading, moving and shooting and shooting on moving targets, along with use of the rifle in low light environments. Students also take the challenging FAS Rifle Master Test at the end of the second day.

Pistol caliber carbines are NOT suitable for this class. We highly recommend a .223 caliber rifle of the AR-15 configuration, though semi-auto rifles of other make have done well in our rifle training. Combat type of scope such as the ACOG is acceptable, along with iron sights, of course. Iron sights do not have a disadvantage in this course.

Prerequisites: our Level 1 Rifle or equivalent from another school. Student will be required to present background check to prove no felony record, which may include a state-issued license to carry a concealed handgun, military or police identification or other form of background check prior to participation. Call before class if you have questions.

Tactical Rifle Equipment List

This two-day course is our third level rifle offering, and is designed to train the student in the use of the rifle/carbine in “urban, inside the house or across the street situations,” primarily distances from 3 to 25 yards. Subject matter includes movement, moving targets, 360-degree awareness and target engagement, along with multiple targets, low light shooting, search techniques, and moving and shooting in the dark. We also include transition to handgun drills and other stress exercises in this course.

Pre-requisites are successful completion of our Level Two, Tactical Rifle course, along with Level Two Defensive Handgun. NOTE: We cannot waive these pre-requisites due to the complex nature of the drills and scenarios the student will be asked to participate in.

Note about .308 caliber rifles in Close Quarters Carbine class: There is a component of this class incorporating extremely rapid fire/high round count firing drills, and we believe the .308, while a great battle rifle cartridge, is not suitable for this class due to the recoil of the rifle and the effect it has on the shooter in these particular drills. We strongly urge a .223 caliber rifle, but if you choose to go with the .308, at least have the good sense to get a PAST recoil pad for your shoulder! Additionally, lever action or bolt action rifles are not suitable for this course.

Close Quarters Carbine Equipment List

In 2016, we combined our Precision Rifle 1 and Precision Rifle 2 classes into one intensive, 3-day, 30 hour course of instruction, which has since proven very popular and often fills early, so don't wait too long to register. By combining sessions we do not have to spend a half a day on review and re-zeroing, and with our new, improved rifle ranges, we are able to accomplish all we did before with this one course.

Content for this combined Precision Rifle course includes:
Rifle marksmanship principles for prone and field positions, along with use of the marksman’s sling and engaging moving targets at different distances and speeds.

Once the class establishes their rifle data for distances from 50 to 400 yards, we participate in a variety of different exercises, including target identification, rapid fire precision shot placement, awkward positions and weak hand shooting, as well as a low-light portion of the class on Saturday evening.

This is a three-day immersion course. Training proceeds well into Saturday night to afford students the uncommon experience of rifle night fireand starts up again Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Students should consider camping or staying at the range facility with sleeping bag and pad to sleep in the classroom, or RV or tent.

Course offered for the serious rifle shooter or previously certified police sniper who wants two full days of relevant training.
Background check, police ID or CCL required, plus references for non-law enforcement personnel. Click Read More link to view equipment requirements.
