Erick Gelhaus Low Light Application - Pistol

This class focuses on applying your existing handgun skills in a low-light environment, utilizing both handheld and weapon-mounted lights.

TOPICS COVERED

  • Selection of handheld and weapon-mounted lights;
  • How to manipulate and activate your lights;
  • Integrating lights with your handgun from ready positions and your holster;
  • Transitioning from a hand-held to weapon-mounted light;
  • Working with lights around cover;
  • Judgment and decision-making will also be addressed.

EXPECTATIONS AND OUTCOMES

By the session’s end, you will be able to utilize your handheld and weapon-mounted lights more effectively for navigation, identification, communication, and engagement, with an emphasis on informed decision-making.

ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Experience applying the Four Safety Rules practically while working with your firearm, ensuring you do not endanger your neighbor. You must be able to draw your handgun from the holster as well as loading, unload, and clear any common stoppages. Be comfortable working from multiple ready positions.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Note-taking material
  • Clear eye/safety glasses and electronic ear protection
  • A pistol with a zeroed optic (loaners MAY be available with enough notice)Appropriate belt, holster, and mag pouches
  • Minimum of a handheld defensive/duty light and (preferably) also a weapon-mounted light;
  • 3 magazines
  • Extra batteries
  • Please bring your snacks, caffeine, and, of course, water. We will break, but the less time we do, the more time we can spend in reduced light.
  • Appropriate range attire.
  • Ammunition: 200 rounds of reliable pistol ammunition

About The Instructor:

What differentiates CMS and Erick Gelhaus from the other competent, talented instructors out there? Why take a class from CMS? Good questions. Quite simply, Gelhaus brings real experience from both the academic and practical application worlds to the classroom.

In addition to lengthy careers in both the military and law enforcement, Erick's grad school coursework focused on communicating about Use of Force issues. He is a well-published author, with articles appearing in numerous print magazines and several online publications.

Gelhaus has taught the defensive use of firearms and tactics in the private sector – for Gunsite, Aimpoint, and others – to vetted citizens, peace officers, and service members since for more than 20 years.
